FolderMatch

It is never a good idea to manually look for duplicate files. They can be spread all over the hard drive and you can lose a lot of time. If it's images, music or any other file types your are looking for, Folder Match can find their duplicates. It will also display side by side folder comparisons, synchronize them and more.

The size of the package does not exceed 6 Mb, so you won't have to wait too long to finish downloading it. Setting it up on your computer is a fast going process due to the straightforward installation wizard.

The program's interface will remind you of Total Commander. The main window is divided into two lists where you can add folders so you can see each of their contents. Simply browse for them and click the Compare button, found on the toolbar. You will then see what items are identical, different, which of them are orphans and so on. Besides the fact that you can see all the contents side by side, they will also be marked with an icon so you can have a better and clearer view on which ones are the same or not.

There is also a feature for comparing two individual files. After browsing for each one of them and clicking a Compare button, an information list will fill up, telling you if they are of the same size, have the same date, attributes, version, binary content, MD5 and SHA-1. All these features involve specifying which files you suspect to be identical. Another thing Folder Match can do is search for duplicates on its own. You can set it to search a specific folder or a whole drive. The results will be displayed in a list where you can mark one or more files for removal. The scan can be adjusted to search for matches regarding name, size, creation date, content and more.

A last feature you can use is folder synchronization. Like the others, this can be launched from the toolbar. A window will show up where you can select a synchronization method for the two folders you have added in the program's main window. The methods include, but are not limited to making the folder from the right side the same as the one from the left or vice versa, copy orphan objects from one side to another or replace older files.

An aspect that makes Folder Match easy to use is its appearance. The buttons are large and colored, the differences between files and folders are marked by sleek looking icons and a colored chart will be displayed after comparing two folders. You will receive a good number of details when comparing something and the actions you can perform if finding duplicates are all automated. All these make Folder Match an effective tool.
